Measuring Guide

Choosing the right size bracelet:

At Allura Marie Couture Jewelry, we measure our bracelets from end to end, including the actual clasp.  If you're unsure about what size bracelet you wear, it's very easy to find the right size for your wrist.

  1. Take a soft flexible measuring tape and measure your wrist just below the wrist bone. If you don't have a flexi-tape, use a string or ribbon to mark the length and then measure with a ruler. This is your actual wrist measurement.
  2. To allow for movement and flexibility, add ¾”-1” for bracelets with Lobster Claw Clasps or 1”-1 ¼” for bracelets made with Toggle Clasps.

For example: Your wrist measures 7 inches. For a bracelet with a Toggle Clasp, you would add 1 inch or 1 ¼ inch – depending on how much movement you want. Your total bracelet length would be 8 inches - 8 ¼ inches.

NOTE:  If you're choosing a bracelet with large style beads, you will want to add another ½ inch to allow for a more comfortable fit. Always remember, the larger the bead is, the smaller the fit will be.

If you find a bracelet at Allura Marie Couture Jewelry that you like, but you need a different size, please contact us as we in most cases can remake the bracelet to the length that you desire.  Please note, that if the you need a larger length than the one that is listed on our site, the overall design of the bracelet may be alter slightly to increase the length as necessary.

Choosing a bracelet for a gift:

Are you choosing a bracelet to give as a gift, but you're not sure of the size? Here are some basic measurements to help guide you. A 7-7½ inch (medium) bracelet is the size most commonly worn.

  • Petite (very small bone structure): 6-6 ½ inches
  • Small (small to average bone structure): 6½-7 inches
  • Medium (average bone structure): 7-7 ½ inches
  • Large (large bone structure): 7½-8 inches
  • Extra Large (extra large bone structure): 8–8 ½ inches and up

  • 4-5 years old - 5 3/4 inches
  • 6-7 years old - 6 inches
  • 8-9 years old - 6 1/4 inches
  • 10-11 years old - 6 ½ inches
  • 12-13 years old - 6 3/4 inches

If you're still not sure which size is appropriate, choose a medium size bracelet with a Lobster Claw clasp and ask for an extender to be sent with your purchase. This extends the length of the bracelet from 1-2 inches ensuring it will fit.

Necklace Lengths & Guide:

The worth of a necklace should not be based on it's price or how it sparkles, but on how good it looks on the person wearing it.  Aside from your outfit, your necklace is the most noticed item you put on your body. Finding the proper necklace length is very important, not only to ensure that it fits, but also to see how it affects the overall appearance of the actual wearer.  You have the ability to change the whole look of your ensemble just by changing the necklace. When choosing a necklace, think about the overall statement you want it to make for you and your outfit and where you want it to fall. The diagram below shows you the various lengths and their drop on the average neck.

Allura Marie Couture Jewelry Necklace Measuring Guide

Collar (12-13")

Consider a collar necklace if you have a thin neck and are wearing a top or dress that shows it off.  Collar necklaces look best with off the shoulder, V-neck or boatneck style dresses and shirts.  You will also find many collar style necklaces that are made out of 2-3 strands all of which lie snugly against the neck.

Choker (14-16")

The choker style necklace is perhaps the most classic and yet versitile of all the single-stranded lengths.  You should wear a choker necklace if you don't like something as close to your neck as a collar style necklace. Choker style necklaces draw attention to your neckline, so if you do not want to draw attention to this area of your body, choose another style of necklace. These types of necklace can go with virtually any outfit from casual to fancy evening wear.

The choker style necklace is also a good length for a child.  This size necklace allows for "growth room" as the child grows.

Princess (17-19")

Princess length is the most popular length in necklaces at 17-19 inches long. When you are wearing a princess style necklace be sure that the top of the dress or shirt that you are wearing is either lower or higher than the drop of your necklace.

The princess style necklace is also the perfect support and length for a pendant.

Matinee (20-24")

Choose the matinee style necklace to accent non decorated dresses or shirts with very low necklines.  You don't want your clothes to take away from the statement of your necklace. Matinee's are a great way to add elegance to work clothes or even super casual wear.

Opera (24-34")

Opera length necklaces are great for making a statement. This style necklace is best worn with a formal gown or blouse, but can also be worn to dress up jeans and a t-shirt.  This long length draws the attention to your bust and away from your neckline.  You can also double the opera length necklae to create a versatile two-strand choker.

Rope (>45")

Dripping with shear elegance and sensuously sexy, this length forces the eye to move up and down the torso and looks best worn with evening wear. Ropes can also be wrapped to form a double or triple strand necklace that you can be paired with any outfit to dress up your casual outfit.
